Sr. Grace Waters, MSC: An MSC Snapshot
Name of Missionary Sister: Sr. Grace Waters, MSC

Current ministry: Volunteer and Advisory Board member – Cabrini Mission Corps; Spiritual Director

What attracted me to a life as a Missionary Sister: God called me from birth to be an MSC. I read Mother Cabrini’s travels which led me to meet the Sisters in West Philadelphia.

Experience that convinced me that religious life was the right path for me: Prayer and daily Mass Listening to God’s call. I “knew” that God had plans for me. (Jeremiah 29: 11, 13)

Favorite prayer or scriptural quote: Psalm 139 – God knows me and hold me in God’s heart and hands. “A wonder I am, and all God’s works are wonders.” (4, 14) and I thank God all the days of my life.”

Favorite way to pray: Sitting in my favorite corner, facing the window to see nature; at times, closing my eyes for centering prayer. Discipline of prayer.

Blessings and challenges of community life: Living with dedicated women with all our warts and weaknesses; all nationalities and cultures. Sisters who guided me along my journey.

What I love most about being an MSC: The mystery of my vocation is overwhelming at times, especially to follow Mother Cabrini’s charism.

Best loved ministry: Spiritual direction – is the greatest gift from God. Listening and journeying with others who desire their relationship with God, selves and others deepens my own spirituality.

What I do for enjoyment – hobbies and interests: Bible classes; [my association with] Cabrini Mission Corps; friends – keeping in touch, especially with MSCs; walking; sending cards to others; lunches and parties with friends; collecting photographs; reading novels and history.

People might be surprised to know that I… am still in love with God and have never regretted being an MSC. I am still in wonder “Why me, Lord?” I don’t deserve it, but I am thrilled to say: “Here I am, Lord!” I have lived and worked with holy people …MSCs, other religious and laity.

My advice for those who are in discernment: Experience the scriptures: Old and New Testament
Seek spiritual direction and counseling to know ourselves and others.

Discipline of prayer and the examen of conscience.

Favorite resources that I would recommend for those in discernment: Friends that help not hinder one’s journey of life.
