Stories of the Heart: Sr. Mary Berchmans, MSC

“In the great Northwest, we find a young Mary Theresa Peretti, a native of Cle Elum, Washington, who entered the Missionary Sisters just a month before her 18th birthday. She often recounts the adventure she had as she took the train with two young postulants across the country to the novitiate in New York. In 1933, Mary made her first vows and began her ministry as an elementary school teacher. Like Mother Cabrini, she traveled the length and breadth of the USA. From 1973, until her retirement, Mary B. tutored immigrants and visited the elderly in New Orleans. Those who share community life with Mary B. experience her great energy, her generous heart and her ability to teach with tremendous zest.”
