Last Spring, Dr. Leonard Primiano, Chair of the Religious Studies Department at Cabrini College, asked Sr. Mary Louise Sullivan, MSC, Ph.D., if she would be willing to teach an additional course (besides History and Global Migration) on the "Spirituality of Mother Cabrini." Sr. Mary Louise agreed and prepared for the new course during the summer. She now has 19 juniors and seniors attending the class. Their basic texts are the Cabrini books by Segundo Galilea, Theodore Maynard and her own book, Mother Cabrini, Italian Immigrant of the Century. Sr. Mary Louise also incorporates Mother Cabrini's own words from resources in the Cabriniana Room which she is utilizing with the students. Sr. Mary Louise notes: "There really is an avid interest in spirituality among the young adults in my class. So far discussions and reaction papers (to readings) are coming along well. At times I am humbled by the students' insights.
A highlight of our class will be a 'Cabrinian Pilgrimage' to New York to visit the St. Frances X. Cabrini Shrine; St. Patrick's Cathedral where St. Cabrini is honored by a bronze statuette on the main door and a bas-relief inside; Cabrini Triangle; and Transfiguration Church where Mother Cabrini is now venerated by the Chinese parishioners - early in the 20th century the MSCs taught at Transfiguration School.
We wish Sr. Mary Louise every success with her new course.
