Sr. Renee Kittelson, MSC
The Lord has opened a new door of ministry for me at Cabrini Senior Housing, also known as Cabrini First Hill Apartment in Seattle, WA. It has been a privilege to welcome fifty-seven low income seniors to our beautiful units which opened on March 1, 2006. The Low Income Housing Authorities runs the facility. I work for them as a Resource Coordinator.

Cabrini Senior Housing enjoys tremendous cultural diversity with Vietnamese, Filipino, Russian, Korean and Chinese residents making up our community.

Each Wednesday afternoon the seniors enjoy a community event such as bingo, birthday celebrations, potlucks, resident meetings, outings or training sessions provided by the various organizations that assist seniors. One of my responsibilities is to coordinate the weekly activities that help to promote a sense of true community. I enjoy networking with the many organizations that provide resources for seniors. St. Vincent de Paul has been most generous in providing basic furniture for many of our residents.

We have also joined forces with Chancery Place and have attended senior cooking classes as well as art and writing classes which are offered by outside organizations.

Some of the residents pray a weekly rosary together. There have been as many as 17 folks attending the rosary. A number of residents [also] attend daily mass at St. James Cathedral which is across the street from Cabrini. There is a real interest in Mother Cabrini and [I find] residents are asking for more books on St.Cabrini to add to our library.

Students at the Villa Academy have adopted our residents. In June, the sixth grade came to interview residents and brought them homemade goodies. They are now planning more upcoming events for Cabrini Seniors.

Yes, we are having fun at Cabrini!

What is more, I will be returning to minister in the prison once a month. I will be able to go anywhere in the prison, visit the lockdowns, and assist with the Catholic services.

Life is surely very busy for Sr. Renee.
