Cabrini Immigration Services, an outreach program of Cabrini Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, opened its doors on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in September of 1999. It serves a diverse population, working primarily with Chinese and Hispanic immigrants. Cabrini Immigrant Services offers legal counseling for immigration benefits; classes in the English language; a food pantry distribution; assistance with public benefits and housing issues; healthcare referrals and assistance with the family legal system. Cabrini also has an Immigrant Women’s Initiative to assist women in knowing their rights; Domestic Violence Prevention and family stability support. Advocacy and lobbying are a major part of their efforts to change existing inequitable structures and laws.
