It isnt every day that budding talent receives training and tutelage from master artists. Not only is this happening for some of our promising Save Our School Children Foundation, Inc. (SOSCFI) students, but the program continues for a full year. Beginning last October and continuing into this year, fifteen area artists meet every Saturday afternoon for three hours with an equal number of students from elementary and high school grades. Using different media, such as craypas (a combination of crayon and pastels), water colors, and oils, these young students are being introduced to a whole new world.
Recently, some of their creations were chosen for an Art Exhibit at The Manor, located at Camp John Hay in Baguio City. Entitled Exhibit for a Cause: Sharing Your Gift, Build a Future, Mayor Bautista, officials from the Baguio Centennial Commission, the general manager of The Manor, and known artists from the area (some of whom give art classes to the students) were present, along with the SOSCFI student artists, some of the staff members, and the Missionary Sisters.
We were happy to learn that Le Chef, the restaurant at The Manor, had purchased the art work displayed and that each young artist would receive 300 pesos. As a result, the students can purchase more art supplies, and a new batch of watercolors is in the making for display and possible purchase.
This experience has made a significant difference in the lives of our youth. Who can measure the effect of such exposure, guidance, recognition and delight? Congratulations to our artists. We are very proud of you!
